Provisional Driving Licence

The first step in getting your driving licence is obtaining a provisional driving licence. Provisional driving licence allows you to drive the car, but with some restrictions. If you have a provisional licence to drive a car, you must be accompanied by someone aged over 21 and who has held a full driving licence for at least three years.  You can apply for provisional driving licence using following link:

When you recieve your provisional licence, keep both the photo card and the counter part paper copy as it required for your theory and practical test and also in future.

 

Conditions for getting your first Provisional Driving Licence

 To get the first provisional driving licence for a car, you must satisfy the following conditions

  • You need to be be a resident of Great Britain (People with other UK Visa can also apply, but they need to apply by post ) 
  • You need to meet the minimum age requirement of 17 years before taking the driving test
  • You need to meet the minimum eyesight requirement i.e. You must be able to read (with glasses or contact lenses, if necessary) a car number plate made after 1 September 2001 from 20 metres.
  • You need not be prevented from driving for any reason

Age limit 

You can apply for a provisional driving licence when you’re 15 years and 9 months old. However, you can start driving when you’re:

  • 17 if you want to drive a car
  • 16 if you want to ride a moped or light quad bike

Documents needed 

  • A valid UK passport or other form of identity like valid UK VISA for non-UK passport holders 
  • Address proof of where you’ve lived over the last 3 years
  • National Insurance number if known

  • £34 (Payable by MasterCard, Visa, Electron, Maestro or Delta debit or credit card)

Apply by post

You can also apply for your provisional driving licence by post as well. You need to complete the D1 application form, which you can get from any city post office or from DVLA ordering service.

Postal applications for provisional driving licence can take up to 3 weeks.You must include: 

  • original documents confirming your identity
  • a colour passport-style photograph

 

 

Lesson's that are cancelled within 24 hours will be charged at the normal hourly lesson rate
